Back to Basics: Move Your Body, Clear Your Mind
September 15, 2025

All month long, we’ve been talking about Back to Basics, and today I want to focus on something that’s simple, powerful, and more necessary than ever: movement.
In light of more heartbreaking gun tragedies recently, I’ve been reflecting even more deeply on the importance of mental and emotional health, and how movement plays a critical role in supporting both.
When the World Feels Heavy, Move
I know from personal experience that when life starts piling up, when my brain starts spinning, and when emotions feel too big to name, movement helps.
Even a walk around the block can calm the nervous system, clear the fog, and give your brain the space to untangle itself.
You don’t need a full workout. You just need to start where you are.
-

Walk the dog.
 -

Dance in your kitchen.
 -

Stretch for 10 minutes.
 -

Take a lap around the block between meetings.

Every little bit counts.
Movement Is Chemistry
Without diving into all the technical stuff, here’s the truth:
Moving your body shifts your internal chemistry.
It improves mood-regulating hormones. It reduces stress. It clears cortisol. It boosts clarity.
And it does it quickly, often within minutes.
You don’t need to do it perfectly. You just need to do it regularly.
What Movement Looks Like for Me (Right Now)
If you’ve been following my journey, you know it’s been a challenging year, with personal loss, business changes, and multiple surgeries.
That means I’m not in the shape I’d like to be. But I’m still prioritizing movement.
-

I walk daily in fresh air, it’s my mental medicine.
 -

I play pickleball (while I still can, before knee surgery).
 -

I’m lifting weights more often, not to compete, but to stay strong.

Because strength isn’t about vanity, it’s about longevity.
It’s about:
-

Being able to get off the floor if you fall.
 -

Carrying your groceries.
 -

Traveling without pain or struggle.
 -

Aging with agility and grace.

Your Movement = Your Life
This isn’t about six-pack abs. It’s about creating a life you love. The one where your body can support the things that bring you joy.
So I challenge you to ask:
-

What kind of movement makes you feel better, mentally and emotionally?
 -

What do you want your body to be able to do in 5, 10, or 20 years?
 -

What do you need to do today to support that?

Movement is medicine for your heart, your mind, and your future.
