Feeling Stuck? Don’t Overthink It, Shift Instead

Let’s talk about something we all experience at some point:

Getting stuck.

You know the feeling.

You’re sitting there thinking,
“What do I do next?”

And all the advice you’ve heard,
“Just take the next logical step”,
suddenly feels… not helpful at all.

Because if you knew the next step, you’d already be doing it.

When “Just Do the Next Logical Thing” Doesn’t Work

Sometimes you’re not avoiding action.

You’re not procrastinating.

You’re just… stuck.

And in that moment, being told to “figure it out” can feel like being told to invent something out of thin air.

So what do you actually do?

Step One: Change Your Environment

This is the first place I always go.

Change where you are.

Because when you shift your environment, you shift your thinking.

That’s why:

  • Workshops work

  • Travel sparks ideas

  • Conversations open new doors

By the time you read this, I’ll have just come back from a workshop in Nashville.

And I fully expect to return with:

  • New ideas

  • New perspectives

  • New clarity

Not because I worked harder…

But because I changed my environment.

You Don’t Have to Go Far

Now, let’s be real, you don’t have to fly to another city to make this work.

Sometimes the simplest shifts are the most powerful.

Like:

  • Going for a walk

  • Leaving your desk

  • Moving your body

  • Getting outside

Even that small change can reset your thinking.

Why This Works

When you stay in the same place…

With the same inputs…

Your brain keeps thinking the same thoughts.

But when you shift your environment, you:

  • Break the pattern

  • Interrupt the loop

  • Open space for new ideas

That’s where creativity starts.

Borrow Someone Else’s Perspective

Another powerful shift?

Talk to someone new.

Not the same people you always go to.

Not the same conversations.

But someone who:

  • Thinks differently

  • Sees things differently

  • Asks different questions

Even a simple walk-and-talk with a friend can unlock something you couldn’t see before.

Movement Changes Everything

My son said something recently that made me smile.

He told me he always gets his best ideas when he’s out walking.

And he’s right.

Because movement isn’t just physical.

It creates mental movement too.

When You Feel Stuck, Do This Instead

Instead of sitting there trying to force an answer:

👉 Get up
👉 Move
👉 Change your environment
👉 Talk it out
👉 Step away

You’re not losing time.

You’re creating clarity.

That’s Where the Magic Happens

Because when you stop forcing the answer…

And give your brain space to think differently…

That’s when the solution shows up.

So the next time you feel stuck, remember:

You don’t need more pressure.

You need a shift.
