When the World Feels Off-Balance: How to Recenter Yourself in Chaos
January 27, 2026

Let’s be honest: sometimes “balance” feels laughably out of reach.
Maybe you’re waking up to two feet of snow like we did here in New England. Maybe you’re watching the news and feeling overwhelmed by everything happening in the world. Or maybe you’re just trying to hold it together in your own home, your work, your health, and your daily routine.
This week, I struggled with what to say. All month long we’ve been talking about balance, how to create it, how to protect it, how to live more in alignment with what matters most. But when the world around you feels like it’s falling apart, how do you talk about balance without sounding completely out of touch?
Here’s the truth I came back to: balance doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It doesn’t mean you’re calm all the time or that life isn’t messy.
Balance is about making space for what grounds you, even when the world doesn’t.
Start Where You Are
When things feel out of control, the most important thing you can do is return to what you can influence. You can’t fix everything. But you can take care of your health. You can shift your perspective. You can move your body, fuel it well, and support your energy. That’s a place to start.
This might look like:
-
Drinking your water even when the day is chaotic
-
Making a nourishing meal instead of skipping or stress-eating
-
Stepping outside for fresh air, even for five minutes
-
Turning off the noise and tuning back into your body
These small acts aren’t just habits. They’re anchors.
Expand Your Circles of Influence
Once you’ve recentered yourself, ask: how can I influence more?
How can I bring peace or stability into my family, my community, my clients’ lives?
Balance is not just internal, it’s communal. It’s contagious (in a good way).
When we model what calm and care look like, even in hard times, we give others permission to do the same. When we prioritize our own well-being, we have more energy to give. When we don’t burn out, we can show up where we’re needed most.
So start small.
Start with yourself.
And then work outward, from your plate, to your mindset, to your people, to your purpose.
We may not be able to restore balance to the whole world overnight.
But we can begin with what’s in front of us.
And that’s always been where real change begins.
