Spring into Action: How to Build Momentum in a New Season

As the seasons shift and the sun hangs a little longer in the sky, it’s the perfect time to hit ‘refresh’—not just on your wardrobe or your home, but on your wellness routines too.

HerHere in New England, spring is finally catching up with the calendar. The longer days and warmer weather are making it a lot easier (and more enjoyable) to get outside, take walks, and feel more energized overall. It’s amazing what a little extra sunshine can do for your mood and motivation, isn’t it?

Personally, I’ve been easing back into activity after recovering from foot surgery. I’m not quite where I was six months ago, and that’s okay. Recovery takes time. What matters is that I’m showing up and building from where I am—not from where I used to be. And spring is making that so much more doable. No more bundling up for a freezing walk. No more dodging icy sidewalks. Just light, movement, and a lot more smiles.

So here’s my encouragement to you: what’s one thing you can do right now to take advantage of the season you’re in?

Maybe you’re like me—ready to build back your fitness gradually so you can get back to doing something you love (for me, that’s pickleball!). Or maybe you’re just craving more movement, fresh air, and that sense of energy that comes from getting out of hibernation mode.

Here are a few ways to “spring into action” and build on what you’ve already got going:

  • Start where you are. Not where you think you should be, or where you were last summer—right here, right now.

  • Build gradually. Add a little more intensity or duration each week. More movement, more strength, more joy.

  • Be consistent. Weekend warrior syndrome is real! Don’t save your activity for Saturdays. A few minutes each day beats a couple hours once a week.

  • Plan ahead. What do you want to be able to do by midsummer? Hike a certain trail? Play a sport? Chase your kids or grandkids without getting winded? Start preparing now.

If you’re not sure where to start, just take a walk. Make it longer than your usual stroll. Or walk a little faster. Or find a new route. Add on some squats and planks. And then add a little more. That’s how momentum builds—step by step.

As always, what I hope for you is that you live a life you love—without giving up the things that bring you joy. And if you’re looking for a little accountability or support as you reset your routine, I’m here.
