Why Time Away Isn’t Optional—It’s Essential
June 2, 2025

All month long, we’ve been talking about the different seasons of life: seasons of recovery, seasons of work, and yes, seasons of fun. And after just returning from my own mini season of fun (hello Universal and Epcot, with foodie adventures in World Showcase’s Morocco, Germany, and Japan!), I’m here to remind you of something important:
Time away isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.
Sure, I came back from the trip a little tired from doubling my daily steps and more than a little worn out from the heat but I also came back with more joy, more creativity, and more mental bandwidth to bring into my life and business. That’s the magic of intentional time away.
And here’s the thing: it doesn’t have to be a big vacation or a trip across the world.
Time away can be as simple as a few hours off the grid. It could be:
-
A full day with your phone turned off.
-
A weekend out of town.
-
A few hours alone at your favorite café with a book and no to-do list.
The point is: stepping away from your routine gives your brain and body the reset it desperately needs.
You don’t need to “earn” your rest.
You don’t need to wait for burnout.
You don’t need a special occasion.
You just need to make it happen, intentionally.
So here’s what I’m doing differently now: I’m scheduling time away each month. I’m putting it on the calendar before everything else can crowd it out. And whether it’s a long weekend, a creative retreat, or just a quiet afternoon, I know that time will pay me back tenfold in energy, clarity, and joy.
Because when you pause, breathe, and reset you’re able to show up as your best self. For your clients, your family, your friends, and most importantly, for yourself.
So now it’s your turn:
How are you going to fit in time away? What cadence feels good to you? Don’t wait until you’re running on empty. Make space for the recharge before you need it.
Because true wellness isn’t just about doing more. Sometimes, it’s about doing less on purpose.
As always, what I hope for you is that you live a life you love without giving up the things that bring you joy.
